Rice CS alumna Anna (Heng) Chi (BA ’17) is a software engineer working on Amazon Go & Bookstore. While an undergraduate, she explored internships in both academic research and industry teams. Before spending a summer as a Salesforce intern, she developed an auto-grader for homework assignments in Professor Vivek Sarkar’s COMP 322 (Fundamentals of Parallel Programming) course.
Chi said she thoroughly enjoyed the structure and content of the Rice CS courses, including the notoriously challenging COMP 182. “[Luay’s] lectures are amazing and he’s really organized with the class material and homework,” said Chi. She admired his strictness and the discipline of his class, because it helped reinforce an effective work ethic for this field.
These days, Chi is excited about the future of retail sales, both in online markets and individual shopping experiences like Amazon Go.
